Overview
Indonesia, the fourth most populous country with more than 250 million people, is currently undergoing rapid urbanization, necessitating a focus on the low-carbon transition. The country is particularly concentrating on Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Transport, Agriculture, Land Use and Forestry, and Waste for mitigation measurement. Indonesia aims for a 29% GHG reduction in BAU by 2030 and a 41% reduction with international support. In 2021, it submitted its first long-term strategy to be carbon neutral by 2060.

Voluntary actions by non-state actors
The Indonesian Environment Fund (BPDLH)
The BPDLH is tasked to manage funds related to forestry, energy and mineral resources, carbon trading, environmental services, industry, transportation, agriculture, marine and fisheries, and other fields related to the environment.
Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX)
The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) launched a trading platform for both carbon allowances (under cap-and-trade) and voluntary carbon credits in September 2023.
