Overview

Vietnam has strengthened its efforts to introduce a legal framework for MRV of greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the Law on Environmental Protection revised in 2020, and the NDC updated in 2022 sets a target of 15.8% emission reduction through self-help efforts and 43.5% emission reduction with international assistance. In addition, with the recent development of the economy, the country is simultaneously focusing on addressing various environmental issues such as energy problems, air pollution, and waste disposal. For the first time, the Environmental Protection Law and Decree require private companies to report GHG emissions at the facility level, as well as develop reduction plans. The goal of achieving net-zero emissions is set for 2050.
